Have a SmartBoard?... it can now work with an iPad - well sort of....

Smart has finally caved in to the scream from educators on being able to control a SmartBoard from an iPad... OK, well, sort of....

There are some catches...

1) You must have the latest copy of NoteBook (there are new licensing costs involved with this)

AND

2) A copy of the NoteBook advantage subscription ($54.00 each/yr)

AND

3) The NoteBook for iPad app (for $6.99).

With all of that, you download the "Notebook Maestro" (at least that is free) and away you go.

Creating Amazing Graphic Designs with iPad

So... during the Jewish Festival of Sukkot and Simchas Torah, my wife Batsheva calculated that we had over 80 people attend festival dinners at our home (most in the Sukkah - a temporary "hut" with a partially open bamboo roof - a lot of fun!!).

Now, why do I mention this to open a quick blog on Academic Tech???  Well, having all of these people led me to create a webpage where people can now "book" a place at our weekly Shabbat dinner table (We usually have 10 to 12 people) making organization so much easier for us.  The only thing I was missing were some cool graphics!  

Just when I was wondering what I was going to do to solve this problem, I received an email from Rabbi Zach Swigard - you may recall that he is one of the Harkham Hillel Hebrew Academy's "Rock Star" educators - talking about a new iPad app, CANVA.

CANVA is an amazing app that lets anyone create some of the most amazing graphics - just the sort of thing that I was looking for to create some cool graphics to add to my Shabbat Dinner website. (or a great way for your students to create custom graphics!!!)

While I was testing a new wireless presentation system (goodbye Apple TV), I came across some really, really cool stuff that I just had to share with you...... (more on the wireless presentation system in a future post...)

Blended Learning

I received an email yesterday from one of the "Rock Star" teachers at Harkham Hillel Hebrew Academy - Rabbi Zack Swigard.  (zswigard@hillelhebrew.org)

He was talking about how he really, really, really wants to move some of his classes into a "Blended Learning" model where his students would use the idea of "Content Mastery" to drive their Judaic Studies education.  In other words, he wants his classes to become a true 21st Century learning experience - Blended Learning, Adaptive Assessments, Flipped Classes, Student Driven and Mastery based!

In his email, he referenced one of the best "all-in-one" articles on the topic that I have read in a long time!! A couple of quick points and shameless plugs for my wife Batsheva.....

In a blended learning environment, the "Enduring Understandings" tend to drive the learning process (as they should!!!).  Batsheva gives one of the best classes I have ever audited on WHAT an Enduring Understanding really is and HOW to craft them. (I mean it.... really.... Spousal support aside...
